Borderline Rhythms – Greek Balkan Percussions
This title draws the rhythmical portrait of northern Balkan Greece regarding to my performing and educational experience. The methodology of this workshop is based on oral, as well as, written musical traditions underlying the special features of each rhythm. We are going to play the rhythm, we are going to sing it, we are going to dance it. This workshop is open to any percussionist, however, my priority is to give technical instructions for instruments such as daouli (davul/tapan), daire (upper position frame drums), as well as darbuka. I will give basic and fundamental information about rhythmic structure, though, I will be prepared to teach various non-metrical (without the constraints of a metronome) rhythms. Any recording is allowed during the class, any publishing without permission is forbidden. Bring your recorder (mobile phone or any application), your notebook, your pencil and your smile!
