A few words about the workshop

What is common between Mikis Thodorakis and Goran Bregovic, musical traditions of Izmir and Ipiros or “rembetiko” and Balkan music?

Is the left hand more important than the right hand?

Dasho is going to answer these questions for us this July in the Musical Yards and share his own point of view with his guests.

was born in Elbassan, Albania on May 26, 1972.

He begins studying music at the age of 6 at the music school “Onufri”, where he starts learning to play the violin. He later studies the accordion, the piano and the tsifteli (traditional Albanian musical instrument).

In 1990 he becomes accepted in the Tirana Music Academy, where he studies classical composition.

In 1991 he takes part in an International Composition Competition for youth 18-22 in Italy. In this first appearance as a composer he wins 4th place in the competition. At the same time, he earns a scholarship for the Milan Music Academy.

In 1993 the political turmoil in Albania forces him to quit his studies and immigrate to Greece to earn a livelihood.

In spite of the difficulties he faces to integrate in the Greek society, he does not abandon his love for music.

In 1995 he performs as an accordion player in the music scene “Hamam” along with the composers Giorgos Zikas and Takis Bourmas.

In 1996 he joins “the Orchestra of Colours” of Manos Hatzidakis.

He continues composing music while combining tradition and western classical education.

He participates in a great number of recordings of famous Greek artists, such as Lizeta Kalimeri, Melina Kana, Thanasis Papakonstantinou, Eleftheria Arvanitaki, Kostas Makedonas, Dimitra Galani, Mihalis Hadjigiannis and many others.

At the same time, he takes part in many events and concerts, both in Greece and abroad. Dasho performs with Giorgos Dalaras and Marinella in the Athens Concert Hall. He also appears with Giorgos Dalaras, Dulce Pontes and Eddy Napoli in the

Odeon of Herodes Atticus. Last but not least, he plays in the Metropolitan Opera of New York for the American Ballet Theatre.

His fertile cooperation with Giorgos Dalaras leads to Dasho composing the music for Dalaras’ first personal album “Erima Horia” (Desert Villages) in 2006.
