I am happy to announce that for most of the seminar, my 'partner in crime' Vassilis Skoutas will join us with his guitar and bouzouki

A few words about the workshop

During the workshops I will practically try to transmit what I know best; accompany solo instruments and voices with the bass guitar. More specifically;

Firstly, we are going to study Rhythm, Bass, Chords and accompanying elements that can be played by a popular guitar on a given melody. Also, we are going to deal with a combination of the various Greek music “schools” from 1930 to 1960, as well as with contemporary and foreign influences on Greek music. Secondly, solo guitar is going to be taught (even though I do not consider myself a soloist), always in combination with the above.

The workshops are going to take place during the seven days of the seminars, for 3 hours a day. They are mainly going to be based on popular musical pieces; the techniques of the old guitar players, as well as their development today. There will be given emphasis on the role of the guitar player in a popular music orchestra.

It can be easily understood that during the limited time of the lessons I am not going to be able to cater the needs of a total beginner musician. As for the more advanced musicians, I would suggest that you bring along any questions you may have in a well-structured form, so that I can do my best in helping you.

Send me your ideas and questions on facebook (dimitris mitarakis) or contact me via e mail (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.).

I hope we are all going to have a nice time.

I would like to thank MUSICAL YARDS for inviting me to teach popular guitar in this year’s workshops.

For those who do not know me, I am a self-taught musician and my knowledge on musical notes is only rudimentary, yet enough in order to communicate with the other musicians.

I have been working as a professional guitar and accordion player since the age of 15 in various working fields; popular traditional festivals (“panigiria”), night clubs and taverns. I have cooperated with –and been taught by- several important old musicians (Goles, Agathonas, Ksintaris, Dimitrianakis, Stelios Vamvakaris) and contemporary artists of the “rembetiko” music field (Vasilis Skoutas, Nikos Tatasopoulos, Fotis Vergopoulos, Rebetien, just to mention a few of my favourite ones...)
